I am Henry Ezeokeke, a freelance illustrator and digital artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. I have worked in advertising as a storyboard and concept artist. I have also worked in publishing, illustrating comics and children’s books. Since 2008 when I officially began freelancing, I have done character design, concept development and storybook illustration for a variety of clients.

WHO AM I?
MY BACKGROUND
Since my childhood, I have been fascinated with the arts, particularly visual arts, drawing and painting. Early on, my dad recognized my talent for drawing and nurtured it by providing me with drawing books, pencils and crayons as well as taking me and my siblings to art exhibitions. Soon drawing became second nature to me
Everyone remembers that eccentric classmate who played pranks, was weird, playful, a social misfit, troublesome and strangely talented at some skill. Well, that was me!! LOL! LOL! LOL! Growing up, I was obsessed with drawing, in fact every blank surface was at the mercy of being vandalized by my drawings. My school text books, school desk, wall, cupboard and most times my lap were all scribbled with rough sketches and drawings!
I later went on to study art at The Yaba College of Technology, Lagos. My years at the institution gave me a solid grounding in the theory and principles of art, since then I have acquired most of my digital skills through self-development and study.
MY HOBBIES
Its goes without saying that my number one hobby is drawing, drawing and more drawing!!I also love reading. I like being lost in the imaginative and creative world of a well written science fiction story.
My favorite genres are science fiction, adventure and fantasy. These genres have a way of expanding your imagination and helping you see creative possibilities as an artist and creator.
I also love to watch animated movies and cartoons, these movies are crucial to keeping me inspired creatively and helping me stay abreast of current trends in the digital art industry.
INSPIRATION AND INFLUENCES
The beautiful natural world around us is my biggest inspiration. The wealth of oral African folktales and legends have inspired me when generating original ideas and themes for my art.
I have been influenced by the works of artists working in both traditional and digital media.
Individual artists like James Gurney, Nathan Fowkes, Bobby Chiu and Dice Tsutsumi have inspired me to improve my artistic skills not just by the quality of their own work but also through their educational resources and online classes.
The works of animation studios like Aardman, Laika, Disney, Dreamworks and Pixar have also had a huge influence in my style.
MY VISION & GOALS
My vision is to constantly improve my use of digital tools in bringing my clients creative vision to life.
I have worked on various children’s books for publishing houses and independent publishers. It is my goal to one day write my own children stories.
